Art and Heart: Reconnecting with Our Creative Freedom

Art and creativity are born in our hearts, but as we grow, the world slowly teaches us that fitting into a box is more important. Play becomes “silly” unless it’s structured in a way that’s acceptable to others. Yet creativity is how we tap into our natural being — how we express who we truly are.

As children, we live in constant curiosity, forever asking why? The world feels full of wonder and discovery. We explore nature and our place within it, using our bodies to engage with the present moment — rolling down hills, jumping in puddles, climbing trees, playing with mud, leaves, and petals. We pick up pens and paper, creating from the soul, never doubting that our creativity is enough. Every drawing, sound, and movement is an honest expression of our inner world.

We create for a reason. We make for meaning. Creativity connects us deeply to our souls.

A child’s innocence holds the belief that anything is possible — until someone tells us otherwise.

As we grow, we’re told what looks good, what doesn’t, and how to fit a mold. We’re taught to use one model for everyone, instead of embracing our individual needs and voices. Slowly, many of us lose our connection to creativity. Fear takes its place. We start believing we’re not “creative enough” or that we’ve missed our purpose — when really, what’s missing is play.

Play and creativity are not luxuries; they are essential parts of being human.

Through art, words, music, movement, and making, we express our souls in ways words alone can’t capture. It’s how we understand ourselves and the world around us.

We should all take the time to find our voice — to speak our truth through whatever form calls to us: painting, poetry, clay, song, dance, or storytelling. Creativity is a celebration of our connection to life — to the moments that shape us and the memories that live in our bodies.

Art reconnects us to our child-self. It reminds us of moments we may have lost to time — the wonder, the joy, the pure presence. In the rush of daily life, it’s easy to slip into autopilot, ignoring the quiet ache of our soul that longs to create and express.

You might have shelves full of art supplies, sketchbooks, or instruments waiting for “the right time” — the moment you feel good enough to begin. But that moment rarely comes on its own. The fear of failure can weigh heavy, until resistance builds and creativity gathers dust.

The truth is, it’s the doing that matters most — not the final product. The process of creating is the joy. Showing up and expressing yourself, however imperfectly, is the only part you can control. Don’t wait for the perfect time or the perfect version of yourself.

Because here’s the truth:

You are the creator of your own experiences.

You are the artist of your dreams and your future.

Your hands were made to create and connect — to bring your inner world to life. Let go of the fear and just begin. Find others to create with, and feel the energy that grows when souls come together to make and express freely.

This — these words — are my own act of creation. My reminder to myself and to you:

Art and creativity should be encouraged, never stifled. We should all reconnect with our inner child — the fearless, curious, expressive part of us — and create for the joy of it, not for perfection or approval.

Because real art comes from the heart.

No restrictions. No fear.

Just pure expression — art and heart.
